o was up for a Best Actor award for his role in Jumping The Broom, a fantastic film about two Black families from different sides of the proverbial tracks about to be bound together by marriage. One of the things I love so much about Alonso is that he is super vocal about the fact that he is both Latino and Black and the fluidity with which he moves between roles written for different cultures just proves his diverse acting skills are on point. So of course, he won!
Hollywood Icon Robert Townsend is an award-winning director who has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Taking the leap to pursue his passion started with just one credit card and now – he’s considered one of the Godfathers of independent Cinema. He has produced and starred in films like The Five Heart Beats, Hollywood Shuffle and The Meteor Man just to name a few. Whether he’s performing standup, writing, producing, acting or directing… there is no doubt that his magic and versatile talent are undeniable. With over 20 years of experience in the business, Robert has grown a passion for passing on his knowledge. He takes time to participate in humanitarian efforts and speak to various organizations. During his time as a speaker for the United Negro College Fund and the NAACP, his concern for inner city youth took him throughout the country to inspire young people to follow their dreams. Now, we are proud to welcome Robert Townsend to the SBI family!
Monday December 19, 2011 Syleena Johnson & Team Underrated (Syleena Johnson Marketing Staff) volunteered at the Lincoln Park Community Shelter. Syleena & Team Underrated helped prepare & serve dinner to the residents. The menu included, Chicken patties with mozzarella cheese sprinkled on top, Ravioli with marinara sauce, dinner rolls and salad. The visit was such a delight & warming experience Syleena wanted to visit the following month. On Thursday January 16, 2012 Syleena was welcomed back but this time she would prepare & serve to the residents. Syleena spoke to the residents about Organic foods and healthy eating. The menu included, Stuffed Bell Peppers with meat, Mostacholi pasta, salad & dinner dolls.
